The Zimbabwe National Liberation War Veterans Association has urged President Mugabe to immediately fire all people implicated in a plot to assassinate and replace him with Vice President Joice Mujuru. Those implicated in that nefarious plot included VP Mujuru and a coterie of her hangers, most of who are now outgoing Politburo members.

VP Mujuru’s cabal included outgoing Zanu-PF Secretary for Administration Cde Didymus Mutasa, Secretary for Transport and Welfare Cde Nicholas Goche, national commissar Cde Webster Shamu and nine provincial chairpersons who were booted out through votes of no confidence ahead of the congress.

In his address on the post-mortem of the just ended congress in Harare yesterday, ZNLWA secretary general Cde Victor Matemadanda, said remarkably it was important that the coup plotters and other renegades in the revolutionary party were sieved during the build up to the congress.

“The Zanu-PF family is happy that at least those who were working for the demise of the President and indeed that of the party are now out of the picture,” he said.

“The President has hinted on the fate of those members who are going to be found guilty. He indicated that they are going to be fired from Government. In fact, this should be done immediately as the continued presence of such elements might continue to compromise the performance of the Zanu-PF Government.

“Their continued presence in Government undermines the authority of the Head of State. It cannot be tolerated.”

At party level, VP Mujuru and some of her acolytes were already sabotaging Zanu-PF programmes by way of absconding key party meetings.

VP Mujuru, and Cdes Mutasa and Goche skipped two successive Politburo meetings and the entire Zanu-PF 6th National People’s Congress that ended on Saturday.

On Sunday although she was briefly seen at Stodart Hall in Mbare during the body viewing of National Hero Cde Lloyd Kotsho Dube, VP Mujuru left before President Mugabe’s arrival.

Cde Matemadanda said there were also some senior Government officials who were working with Mujuru’s cabal and should be plucked out.

“There are some permanent secretaries and directors in the ministries, especially some directors in the Ministry of Youths, Indigenisation and Empowerment and one Mukwaira in the Ministry of Local Government, Public Works and National Housing who is corruptly handling the installation of chiefs and was interfering with the traditional processes of chiefs’ succession,” he said.

Cde Matemadanda said following its highly subscribed congress, Zanu-PF should now focus on key deliverables as espoused in the Zim-Asset.

He challenged civil servants to be equal to the task at hand or face the boot.

The ZNLWA meeting, which was held at Zanu-PF headquarters, was also attended by members of the Zimbabwe National Liberation War Collaborators Association.
